Aluminium 2017 is a robust alloy primarily made up of aluminum, along with copper (3.9–4.9%), magnesium (0.2–0.8%), manganese (0.3–0.9%), and trace amounts of silicon, iron, and zinc. This unique blend offers remarkable fatigue resistance, impressive tensile strength, and decent corrosion resistance when properly treated. The mechanical properties include a tensile strength of about 470–520 MPa, a yield strength of around 330 MPa, and an elongation of 10–15%, with hardness levels ranging from 120 to 140 HB. These traits make Aluminium 2017 forgings perfect for applications that demand durability, high strength, and reliability in tough conditions.

Aluminum 2017 is suitable for forging but has limited high-temperature resistance. For high-temperature forging applications, consider alloys with better heat resistance, like 2219 or 2618.
The workability of Aluminum 2017, being moderate, affects forging by requiring precise temperature control (400–480°C) to prevent cracking and achieve proper plastic deformation, making it suitable for intricate shapes with care.
Aluminum 2017 offers high strength, excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and ease of welding, making it ideal for custom forgings in aerospace, military, and high-performance applications.
Aluminium 2017 forgings are extensively utilized in the aerospace and aviation sectors for critical structural components like aircraft frames, wings, and landing gear, thanks to their high strength and fatigue resistance. They also play a vital role in defense applications, such as armored vehicles and military equipment, where performance under pressure is crucial. Furthermore, Aluminium 2017 forgings are found in automotive, marine, and high-performance engineering fields for structural parts and precision components. Their blend of strength, machinability, and lightweight properties makes them an excellent choice for demanding applications.
